Software for customer accounts?

I would like to save all my customer information and assign them a cutomer reference number, for promotional business cards and the like. Anyone know of a software I could use to do something like this? Like Greg Smith would be customer # 01001 and Mike Simpson would be customer # 01015. I would much rather do this so I could put the number on the business card instead of a name...never know how many Mike S.`s there might be. Just a way to distiguish your customers easier when applying discounts.
