hey guys,

a tech here at work is buying a 1994 volvo and since the owner had it sitting around for over a year, he wants it detailed once he buys it. so does this paint have a clear coat ??

i am just curious, i would like to use the menzerna twins and maybe some wolfgang :grinno:

No, 95 volvos and up have clearcoats. So you should expect some paint transfer.

ok, thanks for the info,

paint transfer onto the pads right ?? i am not worried about that, but using the pc and a cutting pad with the IP is my concern.

i should be ok right ?? hopefully :nervous:

Yeah Single stage volvo paint is about medium hardness. Ive used SSR3 on small parts of my single stage green and had no problems

SOUNDS GOOD,

ok, so he just brought it back to the shop, and the "beige" carpets are pink,

he noticed this in a couple that he looked at.

what happens ?? should this be dyed ??

What color is it? Most 94 volvo colors were clearcoat except for red, white, and dark green.

About the interior, almost all beige carpets I`ve seen in an 850 have faded to pink, not sure if there is anything you can do about it.

I had an anthracite on pink 850T for a while. Never did get a quote from an upholstery shop for the dying. Sold it! You could do it for him. . . learning experience. Carpet dye kits are sold a few places, Rightlook, ProWax, AutoInt?, TOL? Don`t know how effective and durable they are though. GL.

let me know :(You need to read and search more on this site. What you`re asking has been asked and (basically) answered many times before. All that you want to know would take forever to type out. It`s like going to a builders forum and posting a message asking how to build a 4500 sq. ft. house...... well not really, but you get the idea. To start off there is a great guide contained in this board:

Guide to Detailing - Autopia.org (http://www.autopia.org/forum/guide-detailing/)

And here is a list of helpful threads for newbies:

Read up a little and then ask some more specific questions that will be easier for us to answer.

Hi a_ahmed,

Glad to see another Volvo owner here! :dance

As I was recently also determining if my cars` paints were single stage versus clear coated, here are some links I came across that you may also find helpful:

-Decoding the 850 VIN (including paint codes/names):

Volvo 850 VIN Plate Identification (http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/850plates.shtml)

-A website that sells touch up paint by code number (and lists if comes with clear coat or not):

PaintScratch Touch-Up Paint (rs), Spray Cans, Spray Paint, Paint Pens, Car Paint, Automotive Paint (http://www.paintscratch.com/)

-A thread from a Volvo forum re: paint codes (not 850 specific):

Swedespeed Forums: Can I buy touch-up paint (http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=94624)

As a newbie, I don`t have any specific product recommendations, but it may help the experienced folk better tailor their recommendations for you if you are a little more specific about how your car lives (outside, in the garage, etc.), how much shine versus protection you are looking for, if you have a specific price range for products, as well as if you plan on applying products by hand or machine...

I look forward to seeing your click and brag post!

Good luck!
