Great thread idea! I get a kick out of beater details. Nice job on the Spirit.

Not necessarily a beater but my son has a 1997 Cavalier.

Hey guys....These are actually pretty nice vehicles! My definition of a "beater" is an old, rusted out piece of crap that the owner doesnt give a darn about!! The photos and the work done to these "beaters" are great! Nice work everyone.

No point detailing a rusted out POS. I think the point is to show even inexpensive cars can look good when detailed properly.

Yeah I`m just talking about old cars that are very rarely taken care of by their owners. A car that`s all rusted has no hope anyway. It`d be a waste of time and products.

Ebp - what kind of car is that? No exterior work done?

Now this is a great thread!! My old bucket o` bolts serves as my detailing products rolling test bed - - everyone should have one:

`95 Buick approaching 150k miles, I think the wheels, from a previous H body, must have nearly 1/4 million miles on them. Powertrain is still excellent, car is getting kind of loose, otherwise :nervous: :D No big deal, my office is only 3 miles from home and I can`t justify driving the good cars such a short distance everyday.

Yeah, but I didn`t want to vaporlock anyone on 56K. :)

Look under the last pic and you will see the link to the whole thread.

Only thing I can think of in detailing old beater uppers is time it takes which is a lot of work in polishing. I don`t even want to think about how long it would take, it just makes my arms sore thinking about it but the rewards are great if you can justify doing it

I should get some pics of my brother`s beat-to-hell 91 accord with 225k miles. I`ve detailed parts of it... It`s my test car. I don`t know WHAT is up with the paint on the trunk and rear quarter tho (my recent test area)...

I tried and tried with heavy polish and yellow cutting pad + rotary @ 3k rpm and was barely able to burn a tiny hole in the clear on an edge. Knocking down scratches and swirls is nearly impossible. Otherwise I`d detail it up, dents and scrapes and all.. Just for fun. It`d be the shiniest POS around :D

Why??? Because it was there! My Dad`s 93 Camry. Over a 150K miles, the "Who cares?" car of the family. Used in the city, for fishing, carrying Home Depot stuff, basically every cruddy job imagineable. Stays in the street 24/7. I think it it was last washed and waxed by the dealer when it was new. It started as a goof to try the Makita Wool Pad that came with my Rotary, but it was pretty amazing how good it worked out in the end.

Did this one a while back, all by hand. DACP, #82 and finished with #26.

1985 Ford Tempo. Sorry, no before shots, just your typical faded red disposable car. ;)
