My wife and I purchased a used Lexus recently, and it it looks like before the car was loaded in Japan it had the windscreen replaced. However, whoever did it, left the black sealant on the glass and very visable.

I have scrapped off as much of it as possible, but there is a hazy smear still on the glass. I have used #000 steel wood, claybar and nothing will remove it.

Any ideas??

3m makes an aerosol in a red can called adhesive and tar remover .

Beware , if you use too much it may seep under the seam and loosen the actual seal for teh windshield , so use it sparingly .

Also - use it outside with PLENTY of fresh air as it is VERY strong and dangerous .

After it sets for about 5 seconds , you can just wipe the excess sealant tar away .

Try and tape off teh rubber trim 1st as it may ruin the look of it if it sits on the rubber .

Maybe some sort of solvent solution. Since you are dealing with glass I`d open up to more possibilities.

As truzoom says some sort of solvent will do the trick. If you don`t have anything specific to hand petrol will do the trick.
