I`m looking for a decent P&S digi cam for less than $200. I searched through the forums and found a few threads concering cameras but everyone was recommending expensive cameras that have no practical use for someone like myself. Any info would be appreciated.

Edited to include digi cam.

Canons are very nice camera`s either digital or non. They have many under $200.

I have the cannon A70 (I think that is the model#), it is 3.2 MP and can be had for @ $199 now. It does everything that I need it to and more, awesome camera IMO.

The Canon Powershot A510 is a nice 3MP camera for under $200. It has several shooting modes, does movies, and only takes 2 AA batteries. It also has a 4x optical zoom, which beats most cameras in that price range.

Thanks for the help guys. I have narrowed my choices to the following:

1. Canon A510 (Best Buy $150)/ Anyone recommend the A520. It is an additional $90 but the performance seems unjustified.

2. Sony DSC-S40 (Best Buy $180)

I really like the small, compact nature of the Sony but really hate two aspects of the camera (I hate the sony stick storage and the lack of video output). Without a doubt, the Sony will take better pictures (more resolution and more megapixils), but the video output is very important to me. Looks like a new Canon in my future.

I just saw this on Spoofee.com. A Canon SD200 for $193 shipped from Dell.

I believe that the only difference between the A510 and A520 is 3MP vs. 4MP. I bought an A510 to replace my Olympus, but ended up giving it to my sister instead (she will get a lot more use out of it than I ever would have). For the 2 weeks that I had it, it seemed like a really nice little camera, and was much more user friendly than my Olympus.

Olympus D-series cameras are nice...

Try this one, $219 from best buy, 5MP point and shoot

Or the lower model D-545 which is a 4MP, nearly identical features to the more expensive onw, $179.

Olympus prices are dropping now that their new line is being unveiled soon...

I was actually looking at the Olympus D-595 camera, but decided against it when I used the comparrison feature at dpreview.com. I can`t remember what grounds I used for its elimination but I do remember liking the A510 better than the Olympus.

I`m actually replacing my Olympus D-510 camera. It was a great camera but the picture button has failed. If you push the "take the picture" button, nothing happens. The LCD screen works as well as all the functions, but no picutres. I`ve tried everything I can think of short of tearing the thing apart. It`s kind of frustrating considering it was a $400 camera a few years ago. I guess the camera is obsolete now that I think about it! Thanks for the help guys.

Well, based on what I`ve told you, can you speculate on the problem?
