No walk in the park on this one. I really had my work cut out for me today. The interior wasn`t much of anything. Most every stain came out of the seats and carpets minus the driver`s left foot rest which had serious wear to the fibers. My final interior processes were:

-Oxy/APC mix for carpets, mats, and seating
-PB APC (10:1) to clean all vinyl and plastic
-Adam`s VRT to dress all vinyl and plastic

The exterior was just hell. It barely looked white when I pulled up. The paint was severly stained and lacked any gloss. All I saw were contaminants, fallout, and etchings everywhere. The car was definately an outdoor car and had never been clayed or polished. I spent a LOT of time going at each area of the exterior detail and when all was said and done, I was happy with the outcome. The only way for a complete fix on the other problems would be a repaint.

For the rims, tires, and wells, I did the following:

-PB APC (10:1) on all with full agitation after 60 seconds, then rinsed
-Tarminator in the wells, waited 2 mins, then agitated
-4* Wheel Gel on rims/tires with full agitation after 30 seconds, then rinsed
-PB Clay on rims and painted parts of wells with soapy water lube, then rinse
-PB Spray and Rinse Wheel Cleaner on rims with 45 second dwell time, then rinsed
-BnB on tires
-HD (2:1) in wells

At the end, there was still some etched in dust that was never coming out, but the rims looked much better.

For the rest of the exterior, it was no easier. I washed the car twice initially, pretreating the lower areas with Tarminator. After 2 washes, 1 FULL CLAY BAR, a rinse and a dry, the paint was still stained. Yes 1 ENTIRE clay bar...The car had so much fallout and rust dots I thought I`d never finish...Usually I clay a car in under 30 mins...I spent about an hour on this one and there were still a couple spots that WOULD NOT budge. My final processes were:

-Mother`s Gold Wash x 2
-Tarminator to treat lower panels
-PB Clay with soapy water lube (lots of time on this area)
-#80 with LC Wool Pad on horizontal surfaces
-#80 with LC Polishing Pad on all surfaces
-#20 by hand on paint and windows

Wow that is a great...the car was in some need of help.....

After the clay I see that you used 80 with a wool pad....

Asking....how is that better than lets say....ssr2.5 or 3 with that same LC foam pad?

Thanks :)

Xtreme: About 4.5 hrs total time. I did the detail in Coram and I`m a bit more east of there ;)

Gordon: Umm...polishing or cutting foam? No matter what the wool is going to cut very hard and fast. To me it was like using SSR 3 with the polishing pad. I did this to see how well it finished up, but there was minor hologramming. I think it could`ve been the 38* temperature too :)

How did that take you only 4.5 hrs!? It takes me a good 6+ to work on a car that messed up! How long on just the polishing part, #80 and #20? Also do you use the Bissel to do carpets now or the Shop Vac? Great Job! where did you do the detail that gas station looks familiar, (they let you use the hose and what not?)

Andrew: Thanks man.

Polishing took just over an hour...Applying #20, under 5 mins. I extracted with the Bissel LGCM. Yup, I did a Silverado there as well as an RX300...Good memory.

Little Update

I spoke to the owner of the Mobil station and he was very pleased with how it came out. He said she`s (the owner) picking it up tomorrow and she`ll definately be thrilled, but get this...

It was detailed 4 months ago!!! I was speechless when he just told me...I told him how much clay and cleaner I went through to get it to where it is...He was surprised as well and WILL be getting me the name of the place that did it...Can`t wait to give em a call to see what their "detail" consists of...:rofl

Great job Sean. Could you give us your thoughts on VRT?

Sure...

VRT is a current go to for interior. With a properly cleaned and degreased vinyl or plastic surface, VRT really enrichens the color and feel and leaves a nice matte look. It`s thicker consistency (lotion like) has me hooked and so far I have not experienced any streaking and have not needed to wipe down uneven spots after it`s dried. I use it in my car and experience less dust on the dash compared to 1Z Cockpit Premium.

As of now it`s a toss up between 303 and VRT, but I give the edge to VRT for its consistency. FWIW, 303 has a touch more sheen than VRT.

Thanks Sean. My feelings exactly. I love the consistancy as well. I love the fact that you can, dare I say, massage it in. I love the final look when it is left to sit the buffed. Makes my black interior blacker without the gloss. This product is a winner to me. Even has slight cleaning ability
