Not sure if this is the right forum, but does anyone know a way to repair a tear in a carpet short of replacing the entire section? It`s a dark wool carpet on a 1985 Rolls Royce. The tear is a straight line but not on a "seam" if you know what I mean. The section can be removed easily and glued back after repair.

If all you have is a rip and not a bad area that needs to be replaced here are two options

a) pull up a portion of the carpet so you can get underneath it and you carefully sew the base of the carpet back together by hand. The carpet tufts will blend back together and hide the tear. You do have to sew a tight close seam to be effective through

b) get some double sided tape (they actually sell some for carpet repairs) and put one end of the tape under the rip. Place another piece of firm cloth (like burlap or a heavy cotton) under the carpet and against the other side of the sticky tape. Press firmly together. You might use a hot iron to help set the glue and meld everything together.

put the carpet back in place and brush the carpet tufts together to hide the tear repair.
