What does SFX and DAS mean, and what is the difference? Im planing on buying the Porter Gable 7424 kit with the Sonus pads, it comes with the SFX or the DAS pads.

SFX are more dense foam pads, ( 6 inch) it is said they will help keep the polish wetter for longer when working it. To the touch the foam seems more compact, I find them better for more worn finishes as each pad seems slightly more aggressive than the DAS ones.

The DAS pads are larger in size ( 6 1/2) and are less dense I use these on better finishes and my own car. To the touch the foam compacts easier as it is softer and less packed.

Both are good pads. In Kit form they also include different size flexi backing plates. A 5 inch backing plate designed to fit in the recess off the DAS pads, meaning the pad protects the paint from the plate edge, or a ^ inch plate the same size as the pads in the SFX kit.

Some people find for more even pressure the 6 inch plate works well on the DAS pads

Good advice, Richt.

I use both DAS and SFX and find the SFX easier to use at high speed. Because its 1" smaller that the DAS pad and more dense, it distorts less at high oscillations. It also transfers the PC`s energy to the pad more efficiently (due to the firmer foam) requiring a lower PC speed for a given task.

I also like the fact it keeps the polish wet, longer. I would highly recommend the SFX to anyone, especially if one is inexperienced. That`s not to say the others brands are not good. I have and use Megs, LC (both DA and VC pads) and Sonus. These days I`ve settled on the SFX and LC white DA pad (similar foam to SFX).

The 6.5" backing plate on the DAS pas is a great idea to prevent pad distortion and maintain revolutions. :up

BTW, do you buy Autoglym in bulk? :D

Both the 5 inch and 6 inch flexi plates came from Autopia, in the DAs and SFX kits respectivly.

Those are Autoglym paper floor matts I use on the way to shows and inside customers cars, yeah but most thinks in 5 litre supply AG wise as it works out nice and cheap!
