Powdercoating?

OK, here`s the deal... I work for a Snap-on tools dealer and he is all about image. He wants me to work on making some of his display tool boxes really shine. I was just curious what you guys would use on a powdercoated finish to make them look awesome? Would just any wax or sealant work (I have P21S, Zaino, Klasse, etc sitting in my garage) or is there something else I should be looking for?

Powdercoating is naturally abrasion resistant because of the nature of the material and because it`s cured at high temperatures. Typically, powdercoating is MUCH thicker than, say, a car`s layer of paint and (except when done by a specialist) very susceptible to runoff and pooling around edges.



You would probably need a very strong tool to do compounding/polishing on a powdercoated finish. Heat would almost certainly be a necessity. If you can`t get that ... shine isn`t going to happen easily.



Let`s just hope all you need to do is some surface cleaning and the finish is already smooth.

I realize that you are talking about tool boxes, but AIO + SG works great on my black powder-coated "Safari Bar." Every so often, someone will scuff it while attempting to parallel park and I will hit it with 3M Machine Glaze (by hand) and then AIO + SG.



I don`t know all the variations of powder coating, but mine started showing a little oxidation/fading after a couple of years and AIO brought it right back.

Thanks for the advice. In advice to NitWit, I`m dealing with brand new tool boxes here with practically perfect finishes. I really just need to get them clean and add some shine to them. I`m hoping that a wax or sealant would be pretty much all I`d need to do.
