A Mazda 626 LX and Toyota Highlander Limited Detailed

Afternoon all,





Hope all are doing well in this heat...The NE is getting swamped pretty bad. The Highlander was done in mid-high 90* heat with almost 100% humidity. It was like working in a steam room :(.





First up, Mazda 626. I sure felt like Scottwax on this one. Not only because its the same car as his, but my damn rotary buffer broke so I did half the car by hand :(. It ended up being the cord, but I still had half a car to do by hand. Hand polishing is not fun :wall . Anyways, the final processes were:



-Optimum Clay

-Meguiar`s # 66 via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm, then by hand with an MF applicator the other half of the car

-Poorboy`s EX-P+ by hand

-OCW by hand



-AutoMagic`s Seal-It on the wheels

-Turbo Wax Tire Gel on tires

-Hyper Dressing cut 3:1 in wells

As you can see, a VERY wet combo and the flake popped nice when I turned the flash on. Too bad the sun didn`t cooperate.

The Highlander was worse than I thought, unfortunately. I thought most of the junk would just wash off, but I was terribly wrong. There was an orangish reside left on after I washed. The owner did not pay for clay or heavy polishing so I had to do my best. I tried APC, Tarminator, and even Goof-Off...nothing :(. I was pretty pissed but then PwC came to the rescue. It polished about 95% of the junk out. The very lower part of the skirts wouldn`t come clean. All in all though, he and I were both happy. Final processes:



-Poorboy`s PwC White via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200 rpm

-Pinnacle Liquid Souveran by hand

-OCW by hand



-BnB on tires

-Hyper Dressing cut 3:1 in wells and undercarriage

-AutoMagic`s Seal-It on wheels

-Flitz on exhaust

are you using a makita buffer? because that is a known problem with the cord shorting out on them, i use a makita at work and so do all the rest of my coworkers and we have had that problem on every single makita we have, you just gotta strip some of the wire and rewire the thing and you should be good to go. its pretty simple to rewire there are 4 wires inside the cord.

I hated how the lower body panels of the Highlander curved in towards the body. It was a PAIN to clean.

Excellent work! No complaining about the heat, I`ve been dealing with it since early May and it has been around 115-118 in Phoenix and Las Vegas this summer! :p



The 626 looks great! Makes me wish I had a color similar to that instead of black...because black is such a PITA and you`ve shown that even lighter colors when properly prepped still look magnificent.

When I`m working in the heat and drenched in sweat I just close my eyes and think of January when I`m freezing my nuggets off working in overcast mid-30 degree weather...suddenly the oppressive heat becomes your friend!! :woot2:

I just replaced the wire on the buffer and all is well now.



I like Liquid Souveran a lot. I remember Jngrbrdman loving it on his White Integra, so I figured I`d have to give it a go on this one.

Sean.. I detailed a metallic white 2001 Chrysler 300C that had the same "orangish" staining in the paintwork.



Like you, I tried solvents and clay and it didn`t put a dent in the surface contamination.



I ended up hand compounding with 3M Microfinishing Compound on soft terrycloth, doing a small section at a time and checking my progress. My method was to wet the car, apply the compound to the terry cloth and then gently rub in the direction of the airflow. I got 99% of the stuff off of the car, then buffed it with DACP, Sonus paint cleanser then used Meguiars #26 as the LSP.
