I have detailed alot of cars with expensive and professional line products, but when I do my regular client`s daily drivers I use Meg`s A12 cleaner wax after a good polish either it be M80, M82 or M83 depending on the condition of the paint. The A12 is price right and available everywhere and when my client is back 3-4 months later, I just re-apply with some more A12 which cleans chemically and adds rich oils to the paint and protects moderately. For a tougher finsh, I use the A12 topped with a #16 combination.

Whats everyone`s take on A12 ?

It`s pretty decent; for bang per buck it`s worth recommending to a casual user. You could keep a new car looking great for a long time with proper wash technique, a clay bar and a bottle/can of A12.

That being said, I have both liquid and paste and rarely use either. Cost is irrelevant to me, and there are products that last longer and look better. For a cleaner wax I far prefer ColorX; it has a little more cleaning power and a little more protection at almost the same price.

ed...i used it today and like you say, it works great. but i was wondering, you say you apply it AFTER you use 80 or 81. i thought the a12 is a true one step. you really don`t have to be using 80/81 before the a12. does it really look any different ?

Like most daily drivers who neglect their car`s finish, the chemical cleaners of A12 will not be able remove swirls or light scratches and require the use of the M series of polishes to rid them. The A12 will be adequate once the paint has been polished and makes an excellent mild cleaner/wax to polish off the finish if I used a coarser polish like M83 DACP using a white polishing pad.

Meguiar’s most versatile, one step wax specially formulated to produce eye-dazzling results on all finishes. Rich conditioning oils and legendary gentle cleaning ability make Cleaner Wax an excellent choice for daily drivers exposed to the elements.

A12 isn`t bad stuff, but its not the best money can buy either. I don`t use cleaner waxes, cause every one I`ve ever used stains trim. I like to just burn off any oxidation/swirls/god knows what with a mild polish via rotary, follow with a non-staining wax. Its quicker, IMHO.

...follow with a non-staining wax.

Not to go off-topic, but which do you consider to be non-staining waxes?

Meg`s #16 won`t stain

Not to go off topic again, but what is with the #s? What is the purpose?

The #`s are product #`s. They differentiate the products instead of saying names. A12 instead of Cleaner Wax. #26 instead of Hi-Tech Yellow wax, #83 instead of DACP, etc. Just a bit faster "writing."

If you like A12, you`ll love ColorX. If your cars are kept outside, then ColorX has a bit more cleaning and more protection.

timmah, I haven`t had a problem with either of these products staining trim; I like your way of securing the issue for yourself, though!

Ed, I agree with your assessment of cleaner waxes. For the wifemobile, I use proper technique along with occasional claying and a cleaner wax.

If I am not mistaken A12 will dry white and Color X isn`t as bad, also the A12 will stain making it more of a problem than it is worth. I always turn customers away from using the Meg`s 3-step for that reason in the hands of an amatuer there will be wax residue everywhere.
