Who wants to clean my engine??

Well, just purchased a used car, and the engine is pretty dirty. I have no experience with cleaning engines so does someone wanna help me out??

Its not that hard :). Here`s one that I did before, lemme tell ya how:







Start by letting engine cool



Tinfoil off alternator, electrical connections, etc



Spray metal and really dirty (brake fluid filler is one of these, as is oil filler) spots with Gunk foaming degreaser



Use APC (Purple Power) in a spray bottle on everything else



Agitate with a wheel brush or other semi-hard brush



Wait 3 minutes, then hose off with a hose and no nozzle, use your thumb to get the spray goin on rough spots



Spray with Poorboy`s BnB (order) or, if you need to go OTC, Mother`s Reflections tire care or Megs #40, cut 50:50 with water.



Start engine, allow to run for 15 minutes



Towel off to smooth out streaks, etc



AIO or cleaner wax on metal



Enjoy

Yeah I usually have engines detailed in under an hour.

Take the plunge and clean it yourself. It is not that hard. Just cover the major electrical components with saran wrap or something similar. Usually the battery, distributor, ignition coil, etc. are most important. Rubber bands help keep it in place. A good APC, some stiff brushes, and a garden hose is all you need. Spray the warm, not hot engine with the APC and use the brushes to loosen the grime. Rinse the APC before it dries fully. Repeat as necessary. Drying can be a pain if you do not have a blower or dryer. After it is clean and dry, dress with a waterbased dressing. Go ahead and give it a try.

ask some help for the expert mechanic in cleaning up your engine, just to be sure that some sensitive parts have to be covered especially the Nissan ignition coil (http://www.shopnisparts.com/nissan-ignition-coil/) for it plays a very important part in its overall operations. just be careful in cleaning up!
