With Father’s Day around the corner, I did my Dad’s LS400..as I do each year.

This is a 1990 LS400, with 250,000 miles. My Dad bought it new and loves this car. He won’t even hear about replacing it. It’s also very rare that it has cloth seats. You know it`s an early Lex as it does not even have the LS400 logo on the trunk. (Darn thing doesn`t use oil, rattle or act up..even with these miles.)

Anyhow, I washed the car with blue Dawn, buffed out some scratched areas, then PC applied AIO at about 5 with a Meg’s polishing pad. I then applied ZFX`d Z-5 with the PC at around 4. (I am a bit concerned as to the effect the AIO will have under the Z for durability, but had nothing else in house to use as a cleaner.)

I think the old girl came out pretty well. It’s certainly not perfect as 250,000 miles take their toll…and the fact that my Dad thinks exterior car care means a tunnel wash every month or so. To it’s credit, it has always been garaged, and for the past few years he uses another car for snow.

Great job, Matt! I wouldn`t worry too much about the AIO base...lots of people doing it without problems.

It`s nice to know those old LS400s really hold up. I`ve always wanted one.

He must do preventative maintenance on schedule though.

You should have put "NEW" in the thread title! It`s just not being honest putting a car that`s had the speedo drill spun to 250k brought out of hiding, detailed and posted up like that.:D:D:D

Ahhh how refreshing. :) A detailer working on a "road warrior" - 15 y/o (we`ve got some members here that are that old :) ) and 250K miles.

Good job Matt :up

Off-topic - Has your Screen ID changed recently? I don`t remember the "PA". Is that a professional designation or a location indicator?

Great work Matt...there is a board at the local dealers for Lexus with all the million miler cars. They just are as durable as possible. :)

If I had to take a wild guess just based on the pics how many miles the car had, I`d say less than 75,000. It looks stunning! The paint is very wet and has some great reflection to it. Now I see why so many people love Zaino. Great job!

Thanks guys!

For my Dad, preventive maintainance means fix things when they break. He is really tough on a car and the fact that this one has held up this well does indeed say something.

Mr. Clean...PA is just my state. I don`t remember changing my screen name although I was away form here for awhile. I use the same screen name on all forums I visit.

Great work! It is amazing how they hold up isn`t it? If you change the oil pretty regularly and keep up on things when they break LS`s will go 3-400k without sticking to the maintenance schedule. Amazing.
