i just ran out of mothers QD spray and my local autozone, strauss, and pepboys dont have QDs in stock. can i mix a little bit of car wash concentrate with water into a spray bottle and use that as a QD substitute?

NO, not as a QD, but ok for a clay lube.

Several people here have used E1 WAUD both diluted 3:1 and full strenght as a QD. I`ve nevered tried it but have read good comments about it.

But does that leave a carnuba coating on the finish?

I believe it should leave a coating of whatever carnauba/synthetic protection it contains.

BTW, other QDs which contain waxes will do likewise, eg. TW Ultra QD...good QD for very light colours...everything else it turns one-dimensional silver! Simply awful! I made the mistake of QDing several dark coloured cars with it...what a mess! They went from deep wet dark liquid pools to silvery-plasticy-looking surface reflections. :angry (WAUD doesn`t do that.)

Mothers Showtime, IMO, is probably the best OTC QD around, for any colour. I prefer it to any in the Megs range. EO`s QD is also very good.

what QDs are there that are cheap yet effective? ill be using car was soap and water mix as a lube for claying anyways so i only need it for removing stains like bird droppings and otehr kind of messes. ive try mothers showtime and i think its pretty good but arent there any cheaper solutions?

also i want to know if megs scratch x, color x, or deep crystal polish would work by hand and will help remove some minor scratches and minor swirls. my autozone have them in stock.

thanks

edit: has any tried Blue Coral Wet Shine Spray Detailer ? my local autozone has them for 4.99:)

QEW (3 cap fulls) in water (32oz) is a great QD. Cleans, shines and leaves behind some protective elements (the reason why vehicles washed with QEW are poor candidates for durability analysis).

all 3 of the products you mentioned can be used by hand.

Another vote for Mothers showtime here

Good luck

None of the above. Go to your local Body Shop supply store and pick-up some Meguiar`s #83 (DACP). Works great on silver and with practice on dark green if followed by a paint cleanser or glaze (Meg#9 or IHG) when using a PC and polishing pad.

so ill just get scratch x for now since i dont have a PC yet. the tube of scratch x seems to be somewhat small. will it be enough for two cars? this is going to be my first time using polish and i have some questions. do i just apply it like wax and buff off like wax or do i have to work it and take it off right away?

and i was also wondering why you guys chose scratch x over color x and deep crystal polish. is it because it has more abrasives?
