Hi, folks.

I have a black 2001 740iL I`ll be detailing next Saturday. I`ve already looked at the car, and it is covered with swirls/spiderwebs/fine scratches.

For those who have worked on late-model BMWs, have you found that the paint is easy to work with a PC? I have Meg`s #83 and #80, with Meg`s and LC Cutting, Polishing, and Finishing pads.

Given the large amount of fine scratches, I am considering going straight to #83 with a Polishing pad, on speed 5. Or would #80 on speed 6 with a Polishing pad be better? This is my main issue.

I`m planning on finishing with EX topped w/ #16.

Thanks for any advice!:wavey

Think of the polishes as you do the various grades of sandpaper. Speed Glaze is much less aggressive than DACP.. Also, the finishing pad is less aggressive than the polishing pad.

So your idea of starting with #83 with a Polishing pad, on speed 5 is the proper choice, IMHO. I assume that you`ve mentioned ALL of the `tools` available to you...

Do not expect miracles. This will take some time and effort. Altho you have a marvelous auto, it has FOUR YEARS of typical wear and tear on the paint. The PC will help, but at some point you will begin to see its limitations.

Good Luck

The paint on my 98 BM is quite soft, dads 03 BM is a little tougher but not by much.

The #83 / #80 combo worked quite well on both cars removing all the light / medium defects and softening the look of the deeper stuff.

Hope this helps,

My 03 Jet Black M3 has very soft paint. The #83 should work well followed with #80; both are products I have used a lot. Good luck!
