Shampoo was Megs Gel or Zymol Bathe, now Einzett Perls or reg wash.

Polish/Cleaner was Zymol HD Cleanse, now Menzerna FP and IP.

Wax was Zymol Carbon, Creme and Japon, now is Menzerna FMJ.

QD was Zymol Spritz? or #34, now is Menzerna, Sonus or #34 still.

I feel like such a noob back then, this site has taught me so much! When I first learned of Autopia from audiworld.com, I started out with P21S products, evolved to Klasse, now Menzerna.

Wash: Dawn

Wax: Meguiar`s Gold Class Liquid (old version)

Tires: Armor All Detailer`s Advantage

QD: "What the heck is a QD?...never heard of it" lol...I never used these products in my pre-Autopia days

I was pretty much ignorant when it came to caring for my old Mazda 626. I would pretty much hit the "free automatic car wash" after I filled up my gas tank (back in the day when they were free).

However as soon as I got my new Mazda 6, I made a conscious decision to take care of her. I bow down to the knowledge available here at Autopia.

Wash=Turtle Wax (which really isn`t bad or anything)

Wax=Armor or turtle wax paste wax. I think I used KIT at one point too.

Tires and dash=no brainer...old school armor all, later replaced with some tire foam (not on the dash, just tires)

QD=gotta agree with MCA on this one.....!

But, the bottom line is, cheap products or not, I always have kept good care of my cars.

Wash: Dawn

Wax: Zymol Cleaner Wax

Wheels: Anything that said "Wheels" and "Spray on, hose off"

Tires: No Touch-style foams.

Wow.

*edit* I didn`t notice the QD category--that didn`t exist in my pre-Autopia days. When I list four products, that means I used four products since I don`t count the quarter blaster vacuum as a product.

Wash: AutoGlym Shampoo, before that dish wash liquid

Wax: AutoGlym Super Resin (every now and then)

Wheels: AutoGlym Clean Wheels

Tires: Nothing

QD: Never heard of prior to Autopia

As you can see, I was very much an AutoGlym kind of guy, nothing against AG, as I still have a stash in my kit, but after Autopia and learning stuff from others on here, I know that I`m a few pounds (dollars) lighter :D

Wash: Dawn, or Blue Coral if I felt adventurous.

Wax: Black Magic liquid.

Wheels: Dawn, same bucket as the paint. Used a really bad brush and Black Magic wheel cleaner.

Tires: Westley`s and Black Magic tire dressing.

QD: Never used one. The Black Magic stuff I had kept streaking so I didn`t bother.

Towels: Terry cotton.

THEN VS THIS WEEKEND:

Then (On my white 1992 Civic)

-Palmolive soap (the green stuff) using the peanut sponge, and drying with old tees

-no polishing, I had no swirls anyway cuz I didn`t see them

-STP protectant (because armorall was too expensive) on dash and tires and my bra :shocked

-The Wax Shop wax used once and I didn`t notice a difference. Applied using `The More Is Better` theory..

Now (1994 Integra LS w/ new paint)

-NXT car wash (with chenille mitts and two-bucket method and WW MFs to dry)

-Megs #83 and #80 for polishing via PC (got SSR1 & SSR2.5 to try)

-AIO / SGx2 (the epitome of `Less is Best", 4* UGE for QD

& 10x the effort and time :D
