An expensive but good tool to have when polishing cars is a glossmeter. They are by no means cheap, but you can use it to find out which products produce the best light refraction. A good one is anywhere from 2-3 grand. Its an expensive item, but well worth the results.

What isthe technical purpose of this machine? Does it measure the depth of the wax?

no, You can do a before and after with polishing. It measures the amount of light refelecting off of the surface by polishing it. In other words, it measures the gloss after polishing.

Sorry guys don`t see the point? If it looks good then that`s what matters.

I guess it give a more "concrete" evidence to your customer that your paint jumps from a 60 to a 99 on the glossmeter. Some people prefer seeing concrete, measurable evidence than just "yes, its shiner than before".

This is definately for a pro or for research use. That`s a lot of money to spend, but thanks for the insight Eric. I always thought companies claiming gloss ratings were eyeballing it.
