Do I have your attention yet :D ?
I detailed today for a fellow Autopian (rotaryb). He found me through Autopia and had me come out to give the car a good claying/polishing.
The car is a 1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. It`s a very rare AWD turbo car in which he has invested PLENTY of engine and other work into. I forget exactly what it has done but I caught "17 lbs of boost" and "low 12 second times in the 1/4". I`ll let him chime in for the performance mod list ;).
Anyways, the car is 12 years old. Very nice shape might I add. No clearcoat failure or oxidation. He washes once or more a week and NXT`s fairly frequently (about once a week). The bad parts were the horizontal sufaces. Lots of light scratching and etching...a common occurence over time. They were also quite imbedded with soot. After all was said and done, I`d say the appearance improved about 90%. I told him I didn`t want to get too agressive, reason being the paint was quite old and I had a feeling the clear was quite thin. My final processes were:
-QEW
-Poorboy`s Clay with QEW lube
-Meguiar`s #80 Speed Glaze and LC Cutting Pad via rotary @ 1500rpm on all horizontal surfaces
-Menzerna MicroPolish and LC Polishing Pad via rotary @ 1500 rpm
-Zaino Z5 by hand
-Poorboy`s Pro Polish on lighting, exhaust, and rims (followed by Z5)
-Hyper Dressing 2:1 on tires
Before Polishing...notice the etching and light scratching

Enjoy!
