My dad pulled out a polisher he has, and its a craftsman 6" 1400/1650rpm polisher.

Can I use this on my car if I buy the pads for it?

Or is the speed too high/low?

You said "RPM", which suggests to me that it operates in a rotary motion, rather than an oscillating motion (which would be OPM). If you are new to detailing (obviously you are new to this site) then you probably don`t want to use that polisher on your paint or anyone else`s. Rotary polishers can be dangerous to paint if they are in the wrong hands. I would recommend getting an orbital polisher instead, which is very safe for beginners.

No, put it on Ebay and buy a PC.

The speed is okay as long as it does not go beyond 2000 rpm. and is VARIABLE (meaning, aside from the speed setting 1-6, it must also control accelerating speed from the trigger, just like the 9227c)

But if you`re new to rotary (a powerful machine), don`t even think about it.

Thanks for the advice guys. Ill stay away from it for now. Ive been polishing for about a year now by hand anywho.

I want something that can get swirls out of paint, and also use to apply AIO and SG.

Will an orbital work good for that?

Youll need a PC for the swirls, or strong arms. an orbital isnt going to do anything.
