I knew I saw that one somewhere else before, right here on Autopia:

I`m a littler nervous about what looks like paper taped against the paint on the fender/wheel well area. I was thinking perhaps it would be better to substitute that for old bed sheets or, if that would sag too much, maybe even adhering some kind of soft material to the back of the paper first :nixweiss

Thanks Lee! I seem to remember this one too, but that`s okay. This is a great tutorial.

I don`t know why he didn`t take the wheel off the car though. That way you can eliminate any overspray issues and it should be easier to work with off the car too.

Yep, that way you could tape the paper to the tire and not have as much worry

Well I got a minor rash on the Lexus from pulling into an ATM at the local SunTrust. They had about 9" tall curbs! One slight error on turning radius and whammo!

Wow. No wonder I never saw the article posted. I have never ever been to this section of Autopia...

Lee, that sounds bad, especially by Autopian standards, I sure do hope the article works out for you. I`m feeling a bit more uneasy now

Does anyone know where to get Wurth paint? I need to repair my VW wheels and that`s the only silver that matches.

I tried calling their North American number but it appears to be dead.

Anyone know how to tell if the silver paint would match without buying it first? Or would silver paint be the same for almost all wheels ?

I need this repair for my OZ wheels on the Zeder. ):

You could use these as an alternative to Wurth-

·Use 3m Painters Masking Tape between the tyre and the wheel rim

·Spray the wheels with Dupont Prep Sol and allow to air dry.

·Apply a thin coat of zinc (Groit`s 20225) to stabilize the surface.

·Paint the wheels with two thin coats of silver alloy paint (Griot`s Garage P/N 20225) to ensure complete coverage, and allow to air-dry (1-2 hours between coats and leave to cure overnight.

Finish with a clear lacquer paint (Griot`s Garage P/N 11570) allow to air-dry and then cure for 4-6 hours

FWIW I would strongly recommend dimounting the wheel (removing the tyre is optional)

"Lee, that sounds bad, especially by Autopian standards"

Actually not too bad...I read all of these articles on the bettercarcare site. :)

I probably clicked on the "Learn" icon a while back and when I saw they were the same articles just figured to go to the other site.

I`d be afraid to use a sheet as they breathe too much, I`d be afraid of paint getting through the sheet.

Yeah, if not dismounting the wheel entirely, hopefully another kind of soft, safe material or something like that attached to the paper
