Hi from a Noob,

Like many people here in the uni, I`m trying to get a good process sorted in my head before the Spring and warm weather returns.

First off, I`ll give you some background...

I`m in the UK, so some products that you guys use aren`t easily available (that I`ve found) without importing it from the US. Stuff that`s easily available over here includes Autoglym, Meguiars, and Zymol. I`ve already got quite a lot of Zymol stuff, so I`d like to use that where I can.

The car is a `94 Porsche in Guards Red. It`s a single stage paint, and I don`t think it`s ever been clayed. There`s some swirl marks, but not really anything deep. It`s got a good few layers of wax on, from last year.

So here`s the process...

1) wash with Autoglym Shampoo high concentration & hot water to remove the old wax (2 bucket method and Megs microfiber mitt)

2) Megs quick clay

3) Wash again to remove clay lube

4) megs swirl remover 2.0

5) Zymol HD Cleanse

6) AIO/KSG

7) Zymol Carbon

I`ll be applying & removing by hand

Comments?

I have a couple of questions. I think I`d need to import the Klasse as I`ve never seen it over here. Is it worth using AIO after HD Cleanse or should I just use the KSG?

Also, I`ve read a lot about claying when the car`s still wet from being rinsed. What`s the point of this, and do I still need to use the clay-lube?

Thanks

Chris

(sorry about the long first post)

Welcome aboad. We cam get alot more over here than Autoglym, Meguiars, and Zymol.

Alex (Creasey)who come on here runs

I have not seen the Klasse over here.

I would

Clay

Megs Speed Glaze

Clearkote Vanilla Moose

Poorboys EX or EX-p

P21s/Nattys/#16 or CMW

All of the above waxes are cheaper and better than the zymol imho. Spent 3 years buying Zymol, Wax Wizard and Swissol for far to many £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ before i found this place.

Cheers

Rich

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply and the URL, it`s a new one on me, but then I`m kinda new :) .

Wow. That`s a whole lotta stuff I didn`t know was available...

The reason I was hoping to stick with Zymol is that I`ve already bought a load, and I`d prefer to use it up than watch it gather dust.

Chris

Edited for spelling and stoopid questions

Welcome Chris! It`s been rumoured that Klasse is a North American brand name and, in Europe, it`s called Car-Lack.

It`s my understanding that, if you don`t use AIO after the HD Cleanse, the SG won`t bond. You could always go straight to a carnauba, like Carbon, of course. :)

Cheers, John

Alex seems to stock all the stuff we need!

You could always use AG SRP and EG in place of the Klasse too and then top with your Carbon.

Hi Chris... welcome to Autopia.

I`d also highly recommend Alex at Serious Performance - he`s very good to deal with.

For even more products that are available in the UK, check out these links.

http://www.erazer.co.uk - for `1Z Einszett`

http://www.advancedcarproducts.co.uk - for `Zaino`

http://www.crystalclean.ltd.uk - for `Mothers`

http://www.frost.co.uk - for `One Grand`

http://www.southdownaero.com/prod19.htm - for `Carlack`

It`s surprising what you can find in the UK if you have the time to do some searching on the net.

That`s brilliant info, I feel like I`ve gone from having hardly any choice at all, to having almost too much. :)

I checked out my wash kit, and the only Zymol that I`ve got in any large quantity is a brand new pot of carbon and a big bottle of clear. So I`m gonna try something like Rich suggested, and use up my Carbon as a final stage until I buy some #16/Nattys.

I think I`ll try the Speed Glaze / vanilla moose combination. I`ve never been totally happy with the durability of AG. I might have been doing it wrong, but I always found there wasn`t enough UV protection and my red cars go pink too quickly.

What are the best applicators to use with speed glaze, vanilla mouse and EX-p?

Hi Chris and welcome!

Carlack 68 is from what I`ve read here much the same as AIO and I bought some today from a company in Gloucestershire for £18.

Alternatively, you could try "our" AIO/SG combo - AG SRP/EGP; about £17 all in from your local Halfords.

And post some pics - Guards Red Porsche, very nice.

Detailing Peugeots is more popular than I though on this side of the pond :D

AndyC_1, I think we x-posted, see my previous comments regarding AG. Maybe I expected too much from it, maybe I should have waxed it after using the EGP :nixweiss

This is about the best photo of my car that I`ve got at the moment. It was taken at a Porsche show last summer. All I`ve done there is HD Cleanse, Carbon and some QD, I forget their name for it.

I don`t know if that`ll work so the photo`s Here (http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/gallery/waltonhall/P7180007)

I hope to get much better results as soon as the weather improves...

Chris, that`s sweet mate - very nice 968 indeed.

I`d suggest that you backtrack to your prep stage and choose a good polish to really make the red pop. Arm yourself with knowledge from this place (and a PC - best £150 you`ll ever spend) and you`ll be good to go.

I`d give AG SRP/EGP topped with a carnuaba a whirl on that myself once you`ve polished unless it`s a pure show car in which case you could go down the glazing route.

I am the grasshopper to Rich`s Pug detailing zen master - just a shame he`s sold them both as I`m now all at sea!

Rich,

Believe it or not a glider company! www.svsp.co.uk - speak to Martin. The downside is that they`re based in a farmyard - cue foul smelling "mud" on my shoes, carpets and sides of the car...

Who`s the - cough - certain winner of the concours then?

Maybe time to get mine repainted. Engine`s coming out end of Feb (Miles is doing a rebuild) so engine bay will be detailed then.

Interior`s already been out and cleaned and reinstalled - which is when I damaged the driver`s door - so just wheels to refurb and I`m good to go.
