Polish break down stages pt.II with polish haze

OK so I got the camera out again and decided to document Menzernz IP breaking down in follow up to this post (http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47155) and show up close what hazing/micro marring (the stuff you can only see under direct light) looks like after you use an aggressive polish or you don`t break down the polish enough:

After: you can see a little bit of hazing around the lights from this distance.

Nice documentation.



I would also classify haze as almost a VERY light trail of where the buffer went. It also looks like light residue. It`s not buffer hologramming, but you can barely see it.



REGARDLESS, the FP will take it out.

Question: Is that how much product to use (of whatever polish)? I`ve never seen anyone use a PC before & have only seen a few pics. I don`t use nearly that much product. My results are ok, but would they get better w/ more product? I`ve done about 8 cars w/ 1/2 bottle of 3M MG. Maybe I`m just a tightwad & try not to use that much? :)

I use a lot less product than that (and *NO THIS IS NOT A SLAM AT blkyukon*). We *are* talking about different products too and that can make a difference.



If what you`re doing works for you, don`t change it. If what you`re doing doesn`t work for you, generally you should use less product and/or a different one.



I use very little PI-III MG, I hardly ever have my pads load up and one bottle lasts a *very* long time. Using more product can make it harder for the product to break down and can "over lubricate" the surface which can cut down on effectiveness, the worst of both worlds so to speak.



Generally, when not satisfied with the results from MG, you oughta step up to PI-III RC (pn 05933) for the first few passes. I don`t use much of *that* product either.

Accumulator no offense taken and I totally agree with what you said - :xyxthumbs



As far as how much I used, it was only about a nickel size amount. I think the picture is deceiving though, the area in the first pic is a only a 1`x1 1/2` area and it does look like alot is on there but the working area was a little over a 3`x3` and that amount was not too much for that size area.





One note, I did end a bit shy of what I would normally do with the IP just to help show what micro marring/hazing is. It still shows the general idea of what a polish does and no matter what polish it is - it has to breakdown for it to work properly.

If you mean how this compares to breaking down #9, #83, and #80, bear in mind that these are different products and different from the Menzerna stuff.



#9 doesn`t break down that much from what you start with. #80 turns clear or pink when it`s broken down and you don`t need too much of it. I`ll let somebody more familiar with #83 handle that one...don`t like it, don`t use it (the #9 either for that matter).

Thanks for the post, answered my questions about the use of a PC with IP and FP... I would hate to go back to a rotory ! too much stress and apprehension for a skilless person such as I, who doesnt have a vehicle to learn the rotory on.
