View Full Version : How to properly use touchup paint?

I have some damage on my car (yeah an accident a while back) and there are a few small spots (size of a penny) where the paint chipped off. I have applied touch up paint to the spots several times, but the paint keeps coming off somehow. It will usually take a month or more, but the paint will always come off. This happens particularly fast on the plastic back bumper. What makes it even more frustrating is that my paint is pearl white so I have to mix the pearl coat and base coat to get to the proper shade of white...otherwise the color won`t match the surrounding area.

So why does the paint come off? Do I need to use some primer or something before the paint?

I can post pictures tomorrow if necessary.

Not an expert on painting but it would seem you would need a primer and or flex agents for the plastic bumper.

Correctly prepping (cleaning/sanding) and priming the surface will help, but as scottabir mentioned, that paint has some flex agents in it. You may need to go to a paint store and see if they can mix some for you or check out the site below.
