I was going to purchase The lake country tuffed pads yellow and white and use 3-m 5933 and then 5966. But then I noticed no one here uses 3M are their products no good. Why do all body shops use their products then? Should I finish with 5941?? Lastly, what is the difference between a machine glaze and a polishing compound????

Thanks

Turbo

This is for a two black cars one 94 jeep Grand Cherokee and the other a 86 Buick Grand National. Really like that deep dark mirror finish.

Bill, he probably means that everyone and his uncle on autopia uses/talks about polishes other than 3M.

Turbo, it`s not that 3M polishes are bad. The members here have just moved onto something else for the sake of experimenting and trying new things. Have no worries. 3M is good stuff. You will get quality results.

I`m very limited in my polish experience, but I love 3M polishes for my black car. I haven`t compared heavier abrasives, but I prefer 3M swirl remover much more than meguiar`s #9.

I just added another 3m product to the collection, kinda like doing the above backwards.

3M stuff is well known in the auto industry and produce some excellent products only problem is that they lack sex appeal in their labelling and is lesser known to the public. Megiuar`s on the other hand is more known on the retail side, but is only making in roads to the auto manufacturers.

I use the PI-III RC (05933) followed by PI-III MG (05937) all the time. The "machine glaze" isn`t really a "glaze" IMO, it`s a mild abrasive polish.

Which are the 05966 and the 05941? Sorry to be lazy but I`m signing off for the night :o

I will always defend 3M products. Not every single is great but I like a lot of them. There wax and swirl remover are used by me often.
