I have heard that topping AIO with Souveran will make the paint nicer and that it`s bad to top SG with any kind of wax.

Has anyone topped SG with wax and got great results? Is it ok to?

What are some good waxes to top SG with?

Welcome to Autopia:wavey

Most people on this forum will top sealants with a wax of their choice, there are so many options when topping.

I don’t think that topping will "hurt" the SG, people who top SG are topping for these reasons.

1. Depth of a carnauba wax

2. Sacrafecial (sp?) layer

3. Just can’t leave their car alone:nixweiss :D

I personally use AG extra gloss protection and top with #16.

Use the search and learn options at the top of this page; this will give you all the information you`ll ever need.

Have fun.

Lolt345- Welcome to Autopia! I got great results topping SG with Meg`s #16. No problems at all and (IMO) it looked a lot better than it did without the topper.

There`s a rumour that Souveran might not work too well on top of SG, but I haven`t tried it myself.

I top SG with P21S. If there is any difference in durability, I cannot tell.

Thanks for the replies.

Before I registered on this site I had been searching. I didn`t really find any posts that goes into depth about topping SG.

I`m not topping SG with wax for durability reasons. It`s for show and as a sacrificial layer. I`ll either get #16 or P21S. How is Natty`s paste wax?

This site is great.

I top SG with S100. I really like the added depth. As far as durabiltity.... It has been only a week, so we`ll see.

I am currently using Souveran over SG and love the look. Other waxes might last longer, but the Souveran depth is hard to beat on black.

On black, I love AIO/SG x3/Souveranx2.

On my personal car which is metallic sapphire blue, AIO x2/SGx5 is untopped or use AIOx2 / Souveranx2. AIO2/SG5/S100 doesn`t work good on it.

On silver and light beige, AIO/S100 is bright and shiny and liquid. I love S100 as a topper on silver. It does add depth to silver.

~One mans opinion / observations~

Using a last step product (LSP) over a sealant that has cross-linked will not affect its durability. The purpose of applying a LSP protective coating to automotive finishes is to act as a sacrificial barrier, you can reapply another coating to replenish the wax that has eroded.

IMO a polymer sealant reflectivity results in a very bright, flat silver glow to the paint film surface.

By adding Carnauba wax as a LSP, once it cross-links it becomes a transparent layer on top of the paint surface and provides Colour, Depth and Clarity that is without equal.

~Hope this helps~
