View Full Version : I bit the bullet and tried some Zaino

After reading about Zaino for the last couple of years, i`ve finally decided to try it. I bought some ZFX, Z5, Z2, Z6 and Z10

The car: 2004 Silver Maxima with well "cared for" paint in excellent condition. I had used Meguiars Speed Glaze and Pinnacle Paste Glaz previously on the car.

Prep: I washed my Max with Dawn and then polished with Meguiars DACP using a PC and a white LC pad.

Application: I applied 6 coats (2 x Z5 and 4 x Z2) total over a 3 day period using the ZFX accelarator. I went over the car between each coat with Z6 and did a final Z6 spritz after the 6th coat.

Here`s some pics (taken under my carport in a combination of lighting situations (shade and sun):

Zaino is very easy to apply and remove by hand. Because of the light colour of my car, i found it difficult at first to see where i had already applied the Zaino. Zaino itself looked very clear on my car during application. A little more focus and attention helped a lot with that after the first coat. I kind of had to get used to applying it.

My car looks like it has a coat of glass sitting on top of it. It is highly reflective and looks wet.

The feel of the car is the slickest that i`ve felt yet in comparison with the different products that i`ve used before. My detailing cloths were just slipping and sliding over the paint. The remainders of Hurricane Francis poured very heavy rain in our area yesterday (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). The beads of water were very small and numerous. I could see the drops of water rolling off the hood during accelaration (might have something to do with the 265 horsies under the hood :D) and reminded me of what RainX does for windshileds. The car almost looked like it was dry in pouring rain during accelaration.

All in all i`m very happy with my purchase. The car is shiny and wet looking. The paint doesn`t "shimmer" like it did with Pinnacle Paste Glaz. In the sun, it was hard to see the lines of the car from the shimmering with the Paste Glaz. There was little body line definition. I actually couldn`t look at it very long in the blazing sun because it hurt my eyes.

Zaino doesn`t "shimmer" on my car like the PPG, but there is more definition of the body lines. I can actually look at my car in the blazing sun and notice body lines and the "shiny-ness".

Looking forward to applying a few more coats this weekend and see what that does.

Nice work Silverbelle, getting a ‘wet-look’ on silver paint is not easy. Zanio makes a good product

She is looking good!!

Great job with the Zaino! Let me know if you see any improvement in looks after you apply the additional layers; I normally stop at 3 layers of Z5 followed by 3 of Z2, applied over two mornings.

I know you will appreciate the Zaino durability too, it`s just no fun having to apply products in the middle of winter!

Nice job on the detail. It sounds like you like the look of the Paste Glaz a bit more. Why don`t you top the Paste Glaz over the zaino on one panel and see if you like it.

Thanks to all for the comments. :xyxthumbs

I may top it with Paste Galz eventually but right now i just want to layer a whole bunch of coats see how it turns out.

It might be my imagination, but it looks like it got "clearer" and "wetter looking" as the days went by this week (as it cured). Is that possible ? BTW... I did the detail last weekend.

Bob,

That looks great! Really turned out well. I think topping with Paste Glaz or P21S would probably yield some additional wetness.

I have also found that claying the car every 6 months really helps bring out the shine on my silver car.

I added 2 more coats today (for total of 2 x Z5 and 6 x Z2 with ZFX since last weekend) and finished off with a Z6 mist.

This is how it looked at sunset late this afternoon. I like the warm hue of the light at this time of day:

Your car looks really good:xyxthumbs . I agree with you about Zaino slickness, that thing is crazy.

I love putting synthetic "waxes" like Klasse and Zaino than traditional carnuba. Zaino works really really well on silver. I`ve done it before and it looks good.

Thanks X-Trail ! What are your impressions on the X-Trail ?
