I recently got a BMW (metalic maroon) that has some gazey/milky spots in the paint that probably came from bird droppings. I`ve tried a couple of products (Meguiars medallion paint cleaner and One Grands Special touch) trying to remove the spots. Some came out but some didn`t....there`s no etching over these spots and the surface is nice and smooth after the above applications.

I`m looking for advice on how to remove these spots.

Thanks, Danny

Have you tried a clay bar?

Oops, I forget to mention that I also tried a clay bar on the spots...didn`t seem to do anything.

Hmmm, these can be tricky. A friend with an 04 black TL has something that sounds similiar. We improved it by using a rotory and Menzerna IP, but we were unable to get it 100% out (Went over it 4-5 times). I think if we worked on it a bit longer we`d get it out, but these types of spots (bird sh** and acid rain) can be very troublesome. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Do you have pictures? They would help.

Generally these types of defects need to be polished out. Hopefully the etching is not too deep into the clear coat. Start with a mild polish and a PC.

What we do is start with a mild product and then progress to a more aggressive product, until the spots are removed, being careful not to breach the clear coat.

Sometimes the use of a high speed buffer and some rubbing compound is needed. And often that is a job best left to a professional.
