Hi,

Could you help me out here please

Which of these new BMW colours would you guys choose. Of course I know its a personal choice thing. I currently have a Titan Silver metallic 3 series, which is, as you know, a very forgiving colour and easy to live with, but a very common sight now. After learning so much from this site, I guess I`m up for something different of course more challenging

I`d just be interested in which you think would be more satisfying to own and maintain.

By the way, the car is the new E87 1 series BMW, on sale in Europe from September. I`m told a six cylinder version will be available in the U.S within a year or so.

1st colour is Quartz Blue - it actually looks light to mid grey in most light conditions, but there is a hint of blue.

2nd colour is Sparkling Graphite - this takes on all sorts of shades in differing light.

:welcome to Autopia.

Are those the only 2 colors you`re considering ?

Out of these two I would pick Sparkling Graphite, but that`s just me, I`ve always liked darker colors on cars.

Thanks,

Those are my top 2 choices, I`ve discounted black as it will be driven daily. One other consideration was Sydney blue:

I agree, I think darker shades suit the lines of this car better

I would take the blue, that shade of grey is becoming too common with cars. The shade of blue is a good compromise between black and silver. Shines well but is not too difficult to maintain.

I think that model will only be offered in Canada and not the U.S. for now. Canadians seem to have a thing for hatchbacks. I`ve read somewhere that BMW doesn`t think it will sell well in the U.S. due to how poorly previous hatchbacks have sold.

In Canada the Civic and Mazda hatchbacks were always among our best sellers so BMW knows there`s a market for them up here.

Although I have been hanging here for far longer than I`ve owned my car, hence thinking I could handle it. I sometimes wonder If I should have gone for black. But then again, even though my car is not a daily driver, I`m always "peering" from my knees across the hood, trunk, etc. and freaked out at the dust shortly after cleaning the car. black probably would have made me insane.

cte500, I agree, I too dismissed black in the interest of my sanity. My heart says Graphite but my head is saying Quartz Blue. The Sydney blue is a nice colour but doesn`t really excite me that much.

BTW, I`ll be specifying, black leather with titan matt trim (even though the blue colours normally show up with grey leather trim

Both colours are very nice.

I would vote graphite, though (on the other hand,

the quartz blue is very easy on the eyes).

With graphite, I bet the car will look different under different

lighting conditions. :up

My experience with that colour is that you also can make

the car take on different shades using different LSP (ex:

VM/EX-P .vs. NXT/Sourveran). You can make it super bright/reflective vs dark/somber color. Pretty cool.

Unfortunately, it is also a "common" color.

When in doubt, buy one of each colour. :D

Understand what you mean by black driving you crazy. I recently got a jet black 325i, which is really nice to look at it, but gets dusty in a manner of minutes. Of all your choices, I would go with the blue.

I went back and forth on colors for my M3 and finally chose Jet Black on Imola Red. Sure it is a pain, but the elation of a just detailed car with all that reflectivity. And while it is more difficult to maintain, I know I will like black next year etc. etc. With other colors I tend to like them for a while and then prefer another.

Welcome to Autopia!

I say go for the blue! The graphite looks amazing though, but I think I`d like the blue.
