Could you please give me some consumer advice regarding a PC to buy and what to look for in a good one. Is there a thread on PC consumer information? Thank you.

Generally most folks buy their PCs from coastal tools because they throw in the backing plate and the price is quite competitive. Do a search on PCs and you will find a ton of information.

This is one thing that bothers me with this particular acronym. An Autopian "PC" refers to a specific model tool made by Porter Cable, but is often used in more general term, sort of like Xerox machine. Even though it`s just one tool it`s called Porter Cable - the company which makes hundreds of various tools.

Anyway, for polishing there is only one (real) PC the 7424 (and its Lowe`s twin 7336). Dig up the Ultimate PC Buying Guide in the Hall of Fame.

I think the name is kinda catchy:D

But yeah ,7424,7335,7336,7336sp are some models of the same tool.the only difference would be the pads and backing plate they may or may not come with, also on the 7336 ,it has a 6inch counterweight while the 7424,7335 models come with a 5inch

The CW are not that size but denotes the size pads in which they are to be used with...

My 7336 works great with the Sonus pads ,which are 6.5".I feel the 6" CW is more suited to these pads .I get almost no vibration at all .

Lots of threads here to read ,do some searching and reading .

One thread is soley dedicated to this thing :xyxthumbs

So the Porter Cable Random Orbit Polisher/Sander at Lowe`s is the same machine as the 7424? I have not purchased one yet because I have been afraid it is not the tool I have been looking for (7424).

Spend a little more and buy it straight from Meguiars. The Porter Cable unit is relabeled with Meguiars. The unit cost 70 dollars more but comes with a life time swap out warranty. What does that mean to you? You ever do ANYTHING with your pc to break it, mail back unit to Meguiars and they will give you a brand new unit NOT A REFURBISHED unit!
