Polish before Zaino?

Hey guys, I love the look of Zaino it`s a great product. Which polish do you guys recommend before applying Zaino.

My paint ( Black clear coat) is in excellent condition (some water spots and minor swirls). I was thinking of trying the Menzerna line, or 1Z line.

Menzerna is perfect for Zaino prep , since your paints in good shape I recommend Intensive polsih with a polish pad followed with FPII with a polish pad. It will leave the surface very smooth which is great to apply Zaino. I`ve been using this combo for some time and I love it.

I know Sal recommends the use of 3M products prior to Zaino. I`ve been experimenting with the Poorboy`s polishes and have to say they`re very good and they`re supposed to be filler free. I have no experience with the Menzerna products but they`re supposed to be very good before Zaino as well. I`ve also heard good things about the 1Z line, but some of them have waxes in them.

Really I`ve tried to get a recommendation out of him for years and the best I ever got was "what ever works best for you."

I can highly recommend Zaino Z5+ZFX on your GN once your paint is prepped. I`ll leave the prep polish/cleaning choices to the other members here.

I had a new 86 GN. It was the hottest car around at the time.(until the 87 GNX came out :rolleyes: ) That car was quick out of the box, but with certain modifications, it would scream. I dug out these two pics that were taken on print film back in 1987:eek: I scanned them into digital format to post here. At the time, I was using the infamous "Liquid Glass" automotive polish on the paint. If I knew then what I know now about exterior car care....:o

Anyways, here`s me heating up the tires and delivering a 13.2 sec 1/4 mile at 102mph at New England Dragway.

If your paint is already in good shape, just use the final polish instead of the intensive polish. Save that for down the line when you need it. Remember always least abrasive 1st...
