The rusted chrome may polish out, but for optimum results, they will probably have to be stripped and rechromed. The paint should respond to a good medium grade polish, glaze and last step product.

Since the rusted chrome indicates that the plating has already been compromised, you might have to get a lot more aggressive with it than normal just to make any headway at all.

Stuff that we usually :scared :nono about, like fine steel wool, might be needed. I`d stay away from stuff like Navel Jelly, though. Use an agressive metal/chrome polish and see if you can turn the rust spots into sorta-black spots. Then seal it up with something durable.

What Scottwax said about the paint, it doesn`t look all that bad. If it`s SS, glaze really does "feed the paint" and is worth using.

I failed to mention earlier that the paint is somewhat chalky. I am waiting to hear back from the owner to see if it SS or not.

Maybe once the rust is addressed, I`d be curious to see how the three step metal polish system, http://www.heavymetalpolish.com would work.

If thats an old Rambler American its prolly SS paint .. Out of curiosity if you have it try AIO .. you may lift a lot of the issues along with the ozidization and save a little time on the polishing step.

Just a thought ..

The year that car was made, there were no such things as clear coat paints. It is definitely single stage.

It`s not a Rambler American, it look european to me.

Side of the car reads "American" and the rear reads "Rambler".
