Is it going overboard to remove the roof rack to make it easier to work on the roof surface?
Are there any problems that anyone is aware of?

Depends on how the roof rack is held on. If you have silicone between joints, then you`ll have to clean it off and reapply, etc. But if it`s plain nuts and bolts, I`d remove it to get to normally neglected areas.
It would not be considered overboard....it would be considered Autopian :)

Thanks for the input.
I thought it might be easier to clean and touch up any areas on the rack too.
I didn`t think about the possibility of silicone.
I`m glad I asked before I took it off.
I`ll check that out.

Excellent point.
I definately don`t want to step into a day long problem.
Especially one that I may not be able to handle.
I`m starting to lean towards just leaving it on and working around it.

I just polish and wax with my roof rack on. I`m not sure about your roof rack, but mine has adjustable crossbars that I just move all to one side when doing the roof. It gives me more room. If not, just work around it, it shouldn`t be too difficult. I polish and wax my roof rack with it on the car too.

Hey tkr128,
Thanks for the advice, mine are adjustable too.
I think that after hearing what you and BlackRegal had to say, I`m going to leave it on and use your technique.
(BTW BlackRegal....those Buicks are suuuweet too)
