The car had a "Enviromental Package" that he didn`t tell me about ahead of time (he was working when I started) and I noticed thie black grease all over the bottom of the doors and inside the trunk.

So I pulled out the Simply Green and went at it

When he got there, I had told him that I got that stuff off and asked if he knew what it was. Turns out it was the rust-proofing that came with the "Enviromental Package"

He didn`t mind so much, considering this car isn`t a winter driven car anyway`s/ But I felt bad abuot it.

hmm...ive been wondering what that stuff is...i have seen it on a few cars and i just figured it was dirty oily stuff that just built up over time.

i think i rather have my car look clean on the hinges/door sills than have that stuff even if its supposed to prevent rusting...

I "gunked" up about 3 old toothbrushes and went thru about 5 or 6 decent sized terry cloth`s in order to get in that clean. . .

Uhhh... I kinda doubt that`s rust proofing. it just looks like dust and dirt and crud from the road. I have that crap in the same spots on my car after each time it`s rainy, and each time I wash it off.. I really doubt you can wash rust proofing off so easily.. otherwise, it can`t do THAT good a job preventing rust, can it?

it took alot to get it off. . .

I`ve had that dirt from not washing for a few weeks, and it`s not the same as this stuff.

It was greasy and sticky and nasty all together.

Don`t feel bad for removing the ROAD GRIME from his car.

its not...my sti dont have it.......as far as i know they do put some type of grease under the car to prevent rust from the salts while shipping to usa...but not door jams and trunklids...but i could be wrong, looks to me the owner just loves dirt

Nice work.

The black stuff was probably rust proofing as, many places leave the overspray, for the customer to see that rustproofing was applied.

Where can I get the Meguiars sticker like the one on the back window?

It was a 1: Part SG to 10 Part water combo, not full strength SG.

My WRX had it, until I removed it. It is NOT `rustproofing` of any kind.

Just cosmoline/grease from when it was shipped.
