In the past week, I have seen two, maybe three, late model vehicles with true whitewall tires. Not lowriders, not young people, but just run-of-the-mill every day cars.
Is this the new In thing?
I didn`t even know they were still made.

As I remember them, they were probably the 1" wide ones. The brand I didn`t see at all. It was just a passing by and notice thing.

I know that they are still available as a custom order from some places but they are fairly pricey.

Charles: You are a mind reader!!!

I have been thinking about this for the past week or so. I don`t know what people really see in them. I like my all black tires :)

What exact vehicles are we talking about? I don`t see any recent ones with typical white wall tires like mine. Closest thing are spaghetti thin ones on Town Cars sometimes and those yellow Vogue types on some newer Caddies

I was lookin at my friend`s GQ and Scion had a pullout ad for their new tC. The tC had white wall tires, since the tire isn`t that big the stripe wasn`t huge like the older cars, but it wasn`t tiny either. The tC was a pearl white and I think if you put mirror tints on it with the white wall tires it`d look pretty hot and different.

I know the 1-inch ones were made up to at least the late 90`s. My mom used to have a 1981 Buick Skylark that had those white-walled tires and as far as I can remember, they were always replaced with white-walled tires up until we sold it in 1999.

Bill:
Here`s a link to a Dunlop page that shows some that look very similar to the ones I saw.

I have been thinking about this for the past week or so. I don`t know what people really see in them. I like my all black tires :)Black tires in performance or low profile were somewhat of a rarity when I started using them back in the 80`s. The first time I used them, I had to buy white lettered tires and have the white letters turned to the inside. The guy that was mounting them for me couldn`t understand why I would buy white lettered tires and put the letters inside. I don`t think he understood why I had no chrome on the vehicle and the grille was completely blacked out, either.
It`s kind of like riding a motorcycle, if you have to explain, they won`t understand anyway.

Coker has the whitewall tires, but the vehicles I saw sure weren`t collector cars. In fact, I think one of them was a mini-van.
FWIW, I don`t have any interest in buying any. I was just surprised to see them on a daily driver. :)

Well I need to pick up a set of the old 2" ones for my 59. I wonder how these would look on my service van?

i think some cars just look better in white walls, certain luxury cars do
i had a park avenue and it would have looked awfull with black walls with the wheels it had IMO
