I`ve done a little research this weekend on the pH levels of car washes and shampoos. All this information is obtainable in the MSDS Sheets.

[/B]Note:[/B] I [/B]commend[/B] Mequiar`s for making this information available online. The majority of product manufacturer`s do not provide MSDS on their products. So as it may seem that I`m picking specifically on Mequiar`s, I`m not, it`s just that their information is readily available to the general public.

pH @ 70 degrees F:

Dawn: ~8

Mequiar`s Car Wash & Conditioner: 8.5

Mequiar`s Car Soft Wash Gel: 8.5

Mequiar`s Deep Crystal Car Wash: 6.5

Mequiar`s Hyper Wash: 8.5

Mequiar`s Detailer Shampoo Plus: 8.5

Mequiar`s Car Wash Soap: 9.5 (Ouch)

Mequiar`s Wash and Wax: 7.5

Mequiar`s Quick Suds: N/A

Mequiar`s Deep Crystal Economy Car Wash: 6.5

Mequiar`s NXT Generation Car Wash: 8.5

Mequiar`s Rich Sud`s Car Wash: 7.0

Mequiar`s Gold Class Car Was & Conditioner: 8.5

Mequiar`s Hi-Tech Wash: 8.5

Assuming that 7.6 to 8.4 can be considered ~8, 70% of the products list above are approximately equal to or greater than the pH of Dawn.

Dawn should NOT be used everytime you decided to wash your automobile. As many of us know, claybarring and polishing removes the existing wax or sealent on the surface, therefore, no need to remove the "contaminants" from the surface using Dawn.
