Paint Spots

Hey guys,



My son has a 1999 Crown Victoria, and on the hood it seems to have acid spots? Just like if someone put some acid in a spray bottle and sprayed it above the hood, letting the acid fall down and eat away at the paint. The spots are only in about a 1` by 1` section, but are pretty noticeable from close up. We have tried Scratch X, and some medium & fine compounds. There are so many spots that you can`t touch them all up with touch up paint either.

So what does everyone think we should/can do to help hide/remove them?

Those are rock chips.



I got a million of `em. Those white (actually gray) spots you see is the primer under the paint showing through. If I am correct, there will also be quite a few on the fenders.



My guess is that`s the driver`s side we are looking at and the car was owned by someone who had it on the highway a lot.



You need a re-spray.

The reason I was thinking against rock chips, is because these spots are only on the hood right next to the windshield on the drivers side, there are no chips anywhere else on the hood, or fenders.

Hard for me to tell from the pics...

Regardless of the cause, are the same as rock chips? If so, my paint tech uses a process he calls "smearing". Spreads the paint with a squeege-type device, then lightly wetsands the surface. Outstanding results.



Typically retails at about $80. Includes anything on the car (minor) that he can color.

Could be that the fenders were re-sprayed or replaced or, the hood could be a `quicky` replacement.



I`m sticking with rock chips tho. If I`m right, you should be able to actually see the chip on the paintwork.



PS - drove a Crown Vic(s) in the middle east (company cars) - great vehicles.
