Bathing carpet

My moms interior is long overdue for a cleaning, and I would really like to bathe the carpet, but I do not have/know anyone with an extractor. I do however have a wet/dry shop vac, is there an effective way of doing this with only the shop vac? or any other good methods? Thanks!

sure - i use Resolve carpet cleaner and a decent carpet brush and then i vac everything up
