View Full Version : Is there battery operated buffer ??
I live in an apartment where there is no power outlet in my garage. I`d like to know if there is battery operated buffer.
There are dozens anywhere from 4 inch to 10 inch. Pep Boys has a few, Sears... or do an online search.

meguiar have one that is cordless, on that note I have also seen some on ebay that are cordless that are a decent price. Here is one

I have no idea of the quality of it tho, maybe somebody might know
The Meguires unit is a WEN at twice the price.

I got the Meguiars one as a gift and it works quite well actually. Its no PC but it will polish and apply waxes just fine if you dont have power handy. Don`t expect it to remove swirls.
It also accepts all my CMA pads...
I`ve looked at the meguiars and I think I`m going to settle with that. But before I throw my money on that toy, has anybody used that yet ?? How`s the performance and quality ? Maybe somebody could give a review on that thing. Thanks.

Read my post above ;)
Also heed what 3 Dog said, it is almost certain that the Meg`s polisher is rebadged and can be had elsewhere for less. Meguiars rebadges the PC and charges $300 for it.
OK, I didn`t know WEN is a brand name for orbital buffer until it came up on yahoo search engine while looking at meguiars cordless buffer. Thanks for the infos. I saved some money.

From DavidB`s article How-To Use The Porter Cable 7424 6" Orbital Polisher (http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=47)
If you don’t have a garage, you can run the PC 7424 off of your car battery using a 750+ watt power inverter.

I have the Simoniz branded one .. same thing was only $69 Canadian ... Its great for #9 or ScratchX . Its no PC but I have used it with patience and removed mars from cars but I wouldn`t want to remove swirls from a complete car with it.
It also works for #82 and applying waxes.

I just bought a 600 watt power inverter from Radio Shack. It is on sale right now, I only paid $80 for it.
Has enough amps for a PC, but not a shop vac.
It totally rocks! The other people in my complex are jealous! :)
How long can you run with the power inverter normally ? Is it rechargable ? If it make sense to buy the power inverter, I might go with that route.

A power invertor lets u draw power from ur car battery. Supposively when u drive around again it will charge ur battery. Maybe people say it harmful, many say it is not to the battery. I would say just get one. They attach thru the cig lighter usually. For the more powerful ones it connects thru the battery terminals.

I used my PC for a full polish (maybe 45 minutes of semi-continous use?), and car started right up.
The 600 watt one I have takes alligator clips to the battery. Not enough juice in the cigarette circuit.
