Well I am kinda new to the whole detailing thing and have been using a few products since finding this site. I have tried UPP, EX, EX-P, NXT to try and get the results I was looking for. While some came close others did not. I know that dark shadow grey is really hard to work with. I was trying to add depth and wet look to the paint but I could get close but could never quite get what I wanted. Well after talking with a few people ( BrettFraz, BradE) here in PM`s about this Zaino stuff I got in my basement for a few months now. They convinced me to give it a try.

Well today I decided to just try out a fender and see how I liked it compared to the rest I have been using. I done Z-5 x2 to the area.

Well I must say it really brings out the metallic, shines like mad, very very slick almost to the point of feeling oily but when I checked my hand it was dry as a bone. So far I really like this stuff. Again it isnt quite what I am looking for shine wise but I have also came to the conclusion I probably am not going to acheive this with a sealent. A sealent is what I want since my vehicle sits outside 24/7.

Now the only thing I didnt like was it was a bear to put on the paint. The pad didnt really wanna slide at all but more like stick to the paint and I could hardly see anything being applied to it. I know thin thin thin when using Z but I never been good at it with anything.

Here is what I am thinking maybe I put in to much ZFX?

I only used maybe 1/8" in the mixing bottle and used 2 drops of ZFX... could this be problem?

It was applied in the heat of the day but the paint didnt seem hot to touch but it is hot outside.

Could this be it?

I misted the pad very lightly with Z-6.

Could it be I didnt mist it enough?

I tried to use very little Z-5 on the pad even from the start.

Could this be the problem? Maybe I need to use more at first and then back it off as pad got saturated?

All and all I am very happy with this stuff and am considering doing the whole truck if I can get this bug worked out.

Also when I strip the rest of the truck of NXT what would you reccomend to use? AIO? DAWN?

Should I strip the Zaino`d fender too so the truck has all uniform layers on it at same time? If so how do I strip the Zaino?

dawn will strip the old easy enough. Maybe wash it a few time with dawn throughout the week before you intend to wax it

Zaino does spread very easily. Just as easy as pledge on a coffee table. BUT, the pad needs to be wet with z6. You probably never used enough z6. Once you start doing the entire car, the pad will get wetter/ more slippery and it just gets easier. I find the first few swipes a pain as well. It`s really easy to get off later on.

AS for your fender. I`d just zaino the entire car like normal. Wouldn`t worry about it at all.

1 oz (half of the mixing bottle), with 3 -4 drops of zfx is what I used. I`m no zaino expert by any means. But it got my 3 coats, and it dried fine even on a cold day.

Zaino does rock...made my former `02 GT`s mineral grey stand up nicely..and look great on the metallic silver on my current Cobra.

newf has you going in the right direction. I would also add that you should make up 1 ounce of Z2 or 5 with 4 drops of ZFX. This would mean that the mixing bottle should be half full. (they are 2 ounce bottles.)

Mist your applicator with some water or Z6 before applying to help it glide over the paint. Don`t be worried that you can`t see it very well when applying, that means you`re doing it right. You don`t need to strip the Zaino you already have on the fender, just put more Z right over it, it will be fine.

So the upcomming dawn wash wont hurt or have ill effects on the Zaino thats already on there?

Also I applied it using a Meguiars Yellow Foam Applicator.

Was this the right choice or is a different applicator better?

The dawn might remove a slight amount of Zaino, but nothing to worry about. Foam applicators work fine.

I would personally set the stage with AIO. I have done 2 cars the last weeks using this technique ( AIO x 1, Z5 x2 and Z2 x3) and love the results.

Who said Zaino can`t look deep along with reflective. It can with proper Prep and its cousin Klasse AIO. :D

Another tip for applying Z that has worked for me: Before starting, run water over your applicator of choice and get it good and wet. Then wring the applicator until it`s just barely damp (squeeze it like your last dime). Now spritz with Z6, and apply Z2/Z5. Use another squirt of Z6 every other panel or so to keep the applicator moving smoothly. Great write up! I was planning on putting a few coats of Z5 on tomorrow, I`ll have to give your method a try, I know I have been using way too much Zaino.

Just a correction, I have never sent a PM to you before...

Sorry BW I thought you were one of the ones who I talked to about using Zaino. I didnt mean to offend you in any way. You have been removed from the list of people I talked to.

Sorry
