Actually, periodical cicadas, Brood X, or The Great Eastern Brood.

So. Those of us who detail MUST all be thinking the same thing here....

Those of you who`ve been through it, what steps should we out here in the East take to protect our cars?

I, being a fan of chaos, am really looking forward to this. However, just like the Leonid meteor shower of 1998 knocking out half our satellites and Y2k, it will dissapoint.

But, just in case it is a big thing. I think I`ll drive my wife`s car on weekends and when going to work in mine, I`ll avoid the interstate (faster impacts are worse) and just take the surface roads.

Hey, the Leonids were pretty spectacular in 2002, at least in NEPA!

Y2K, well, no one was really sure which year that was, 1/1/0, or 1/1/1, so the impact was diffused. If everyone would`ve agreed, I think it would have been a stone cold party, though. But, with some peole showing up one year and some the next, what would you expect, y`know.

I remember the cicadas from 1987, but I wasn`t into detailing then; I`m sure I washed them off and went about my business. They were very nice then.

I was at sears yesterday, they were selling cicada brooms...:D

This is gonna be really cool, but its gonna suck for my car.

Actually what I find more discusting is that a few months after they are gone, all the eggs they layed in tree branches will be hatching. And millions of little soft squishy nymphs will rain from the sky.

I was 13 the last time they were here in chicago (i only remeber cuz my sis was 17 at the time) and I`m 27 and she`s 30, so those of us here in chicago have about 4 years till they hit us (if my memory severs me well)
