View Full Version : Black hood looks awful (pics)-Is my plan of attack aggressive enough?

After washing and claying and then washing again today, I realized just how awful the hood of my 98 Cosmos M3 looks. It`s pretty pathetic. The rest of the car looks fine but the hood looks like ****. There are several small scratches, but more than that, there are tons of streaks of discolorization - like 1/3" wide and 6" long. It just looks overall horrible.

Moreover, the moron owner before me did some AWFUL touch up on hood chips, and so there are blotches from where they didn`t evenly apply the touchup paint. I realize these will probably just always look bad.

My main question is, will the following get out a lot of the discoloration, streaks, and severe water-spotting that thus far have been untouched by two washes and a claying:

Minzerna IP / Yellow pad

Minzerna FP / White pad

WG Pre-Wax / White pad

WG Sealant / Black/grey pad

Is that going to be an agressive enough combination to get out most of the water spotting, streaks, etc? Would going to a wool pad with the IP help if the blemishes dont come out with IP and a yellow pad? I know it can damage, and I`ve never used my PC before...

Thanks guys,

Parker

I would apply the sealant by hand. It is much easier. The pre-wax is up to you.

I think that plan will get out much of what you are talking about. Don`t use a wool pad. IP and the yellow pad is pretty strong; just work it in good and go slowly.

Any way to smooth out the awful, pathetic, crayon-version of paint-touch up that is already on the hood? It just totally doesn`t go with the hood...it`s like, smooth hood texture and a huge blob don`t particularly go well together...
