hey, sorta new at the interior thing, but i have a few questions, so ill try to make this easy...

1. what is an extractor (i have an idea, but im still not too sure)

2. whats the price range for an extractor?

3. can they be bought locally. as well as online?

4. do you personally find it necessary to use an extractor?

5. can anyone give me a hyperlink to a good, but not too pricy extractor?

Excellent rundown BlackRegal!

I have switched between a little mobile Bissel carpet extractor (like the Little Green Machine) and a 5 hp Shopvac (with filter removed).

They both do a solid job, however I think the Bissel has the advantage because of the head specially made for sucking up liquid out of upholstery.

To get away with it, use your favorite carpet solution with a scrub brush, then scrub in, and extract the water with a wet/dry shop vac with the filter removed (more suction). This eliminates extra tools (unless you want to purchase them) and does almost an equally as thorough job.
