Meguiar`s Dual Action Polisher,comes with one W-8006 foam polishing pad and a W64DA Backing Plate (http://www.meguiars.com/store_meguiars/product_detail.cfm?sku=G-100)
Let`s see if I can understand autogeek is selling a 6.5 inch pad,to used only with 5` backing plate.
Meguiars sells the same machine kit with 6`5 back plate but fits 6`5" pads ? :nixweiss
Probably I`m making this harder than it should be.Can you guys please explain to me.
I`m about to order one,if I buy at Megs will be 225.95 with a back plate & Foam Polishing Pads.
If I get at Autogeek it will be 129.95 with lots of extra to buy more pads.

I don`t know why it says you must use a 5" backing plate. I wouldn`t worry about it. Support Autogeek and get the PC from them. Then trot over to CMA and get some pads there. The advantage of getting a PC from Meguiars is the lifetime no questions guarantee (I think it`s no questions...). Thing is, try to find someone on this entire forum who has had PC malfunctioning; I don`t think you will be able to.
I got mine from Coastal w/ a 6" backing plate and have used it on all pads. Some of the smaller ones (LC cutting, I think) require concentration, as the pad is actually a little smaller than the plate.
Nutshell: Autogeek with loads of pads. Three of each kind is NOT too many.

coastaltool.com has the best prices and the 6" backingplate and counterweight is included for free and it`s still cheaper, that is where I purchased mine last year.

you need to match counterweight with backing plate size so the vibration is lessened, the 6" seems to be the most popular size around here.

Autogeek doesn`t sell Counter-Weights ?

Hahaha. Check thy calendar.
The counterweight should be included either with the pc or the backing plate.

I can attest to that. I bought my PC in spring of 1995 and it works as well today as when it was new. I use it a lot too. PC really knows how to make these things. I think it is because they were born as sanders which I`d guess would put much more stress on the motor, gears and bearings than polishing does.
I bought mine from Meguiar`s as part of their Concours kit which saved a lot on the total package. Back in 1995 the Concours kit was selling for around $200. I also like the fact that they offer it with a "No questions asked" lifetime guarantee.
Still confused about back plate vs pad size :confused:

I got my PC from the Autopia shop along with the 5" flexi backing plate. Got some 6.5" pads (LC) from Nick at Detailers Paradise and some Megs 6.5" pads from over here in the UK. The hook & loop material on both pads and backing plate are the exact same size (5" diameter) so fit perfect if that`s what you`re worried about?
It doesn`t matter if you choose a 6.5", 6" or 5" backing plate, as all 6.5" pads from Megs and LC will fit onto the backing plate ok. But remember, a 6.5" backing plate is the same diameter as a 6.5" pad, so you run a greater risk of hitting the edge of the backing plate into your paintwork if you`re not careful. IMO, it`s safer to have a backing plate that is smaller in diameter than the pads you`re using.
