I recently got a black GTI VR6, and am extremely interested in keeping it clean and nice. I have been doign far too much research on products and techniques, and this guide sounds like just the right mix of work and protection:

The Klasse stuff seems really nice, and straightforward to use. I plan to purchase the deluxe kit which includes microfiber application towels, applicators, wheel and leather cleaners, etc.

Unfortunately my car has some poor touch-up paint work, some swirl marks, and light surface scratches . Here is my gameplan:

1. Re-do poor touch up work by using paint to fill chip to above factory paint level, instead of well below as it is now. I may just spot sand the old chips down with a sanding pencil to make sure no rust is forming beneath them, and re-do them. This will take a few days.

2. When touch-up paint work is done, and given a good time to set (week or so), strip car with Dawn.

3. Use my purchased claybar/clay lube and clay the car.

4. Use 2000 grit wet sandpaper to rub touch-up paint down to surface level.

5. Use good rubbing compound/Polish (such as this Menzerna Intensive Polish http://www.properautocare.com/meninpol.html ) to remove sandpaper buff marks, and restore car to a fresh finish.

6. Follow guide linked above for Klasse application. This will pretty much seal the car for good, if I keep applying product with any regularity.

7. Finish with a wax topper, with a quality durable wax. (Is this Blitz good? http://www.properautocare.com/class...itzwax10oz.html )

I feel that this should give me a nice, permanent solution, with regular washing and re-waxing. I worry about re-doing the touch up work correctly - if I fill the chip to over factory paint, then sand down, it should be pretty straightfoward, right?

Does the AIO remove swirls and light scratches, or merely help to obscure them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Telix- Welcome to Auotpia.

You`re basically right about the toucup process, but it`s a little tricky to get just right. Do some searches, we`ve gone into this topic in great detail. And you might need a stronger compound than the IP to get the sanding scratches out and then a MILDER product to get the finish ready for Klasse, especially on black.

AIO does not remove, or even hide marring. Get the finish as good as you want it using abrasive polishes first. Get a few layers of SG on there before you top with wax, the SG is your primary "protective product".

Blitz is good, but it can really stain black plastic/rubber trim.
