I recently bought a new acua rsx. I was curious if most new cars should be waxed right away, or if they are usually waxed at the dealer.

Thanks,

Mitch

If the dealer "waxed" or even touched it, you would know by seeing a million swirl marks in the paint. ;) It would not hurt, for real, to put on another coat just to be safe.

Virtually every new car is ready for wax as soon as you take delivery. The paint was oven baked at the factory and should need no more curing. Go easy on the polishing (no need to abrade new paint if its not necessary) but use whatever wax you want to.

Most cars are waxed at vehicle processing centers prior to shipment to the dealers:

Unfortunately many cars do come with dealer installed swirl marks and even some scratches, and all at no additional cost!

When I picked up my first new car in 12 years I made sure the dealer didn`t even "unwrap" the car. I took it home and carefully claybarred to remove the rail dust and shipping crud. First new car I`ve ever seen with absolutely no swirls or microscratches.

Now of course this is a "cheap" car (a Ford), not an exotic European model. But even those come with the dreaded "lot boy" polishing jobs.

My friend just got a brand new Crossfire and it looks like the paint has gone threw a thorn bush it is so marked up from the dealer.

I dunno, must be a BMW thing. Most american cars are only waxed at the final dealership. And it varies from dealer to dealer how good/bad the job is and if they use a buffer and wax or just wash.

To answer you question new cars are ready for (and should be) waxed as soon as it rolls off the manufacturing line.

BMWs are not waxed at the VPC prior to delivery to the dealer. They are sent through a brushless car wash of hot solvent to remove the cosmoline coating. I never, ever have a dealer touch my autos before delivery. They squeal like a pig but they know that I will refuse delivery and cancel my order if the car is touched by there detail shop.

Many cars arrive and are stored at the dealership with RapGard in place making it impossible for the port to have done any preparatory work on the finish...thankfully.

In today`s day of slim margins and cars being sold at or behind invoice, I suspect most dealers are doing a quik wash and tossing the owner the keys...thankfully. :D
