Masking trim....

I want to try the Menzerna twins and am curious if it dries white on black trim. If it does, is there a special tape I should use to mask off the trim?

I`d mask off trim prior to polishing regardless of polish brand. It`s a common sense thing, not a brand thing.



Use the blue painter`s tape found at hardware stores.

I am using the Menzerna twins right now on mine and yes mask off the trum. Even tho it is water based if allowed to dry on a lower valance or a textured mud flap it can be fun to get off.. BTW a Pink Pearl eraser lits it rather well.

Take 10 minutes and mask with the blue painters tape, it comes right off. Well worth the time it takes.

Yes Joe, tape off trim and cover portions of the vehicle ( I use soft cotton bed sheets) that you are not working on. Helps keep crud out of small places and settling on the rest of vehicle. :wavey

Depending on what was applied to the trim plastic and rubber window edging, you may have serious difficulty it getting the blue painters tape to stick. I polished a Lightning a couple of weeks ago and the owner used ArmorAll protectant and the tape really had difficulty sticling. You may need to scrub those pieces with soap and water and a toothbrush to remove the protectant before taping.

I haven`t had very good luck with the "blue" painters tape either. I find it doesn`t stick very good on clean or treated rubber window seals, plus the blue dye comes off on the pads. Probably no big deal, but I don`t like it. I was looking at trying Scotch Pro. Automotive Masking Tape, anybody used it yet?

Try rubbing the treated window seals with IA then tape them .



I have been using *green* masking tape and it seems to work well. Only cuz I couldn`t find blue in this lil 1/2 horse town I live in.

I use the Scotch Pro Automotive Masking Tape ( light green) from my Body Shop supplier. Works good for protecting edges and joints for those rotary sessions. No residue upon removal or dye transfer. :xyxthumbs

Sorry, hope I`m not threadjacking....but I used up the last of my blue painters tape and was looking at replacing with something that worked better.

I have not used it on unpainted plastic. The problem will be finding a vehicle with unpainted plastic. The 60`s Classics - none. Lexus - none. The Z28 convertible - none. The Escort - none



I will try of the cowl of the Z28 that has a textured surface unpainted plastic.



I will test it this evening and report back to you. :wavey

I tested my 3M Scotch Pro Automotive Masking Tape (light green) 233+ (PN 26334). I does stick to plastic even though the test item was treated with 303 protectant (I apply 303 and buff off after 10 minutes, so the surface is not loaded).
