My registration on my car will be expiring at the end of the month and I will need to replace my registration stickers soon. The last time I tried to remove the stickers from my wifes plates I made a huge mess and managed to scratch the plates. Can someone give me some tips/tricks to properly remove a license plate sticker. I appreciate any help.

Heat. Regular hair dryer usually does the trick. :xyxthumbs

Yep, I ve had luck with using my steamer and some 3m wax and adhesive remover. Come to think of it, next month I`ll be doing just this

I actually get mine off with a small pocket knife and some careful patience. Goo gone to get the rest of the sticky off and it works perfect everytime :)

I tried WD-40, didn`t work for me but that might just be due to the material of my decal. I`m not sure if the same material is used everywhere on them

Very good advice!

The heat from the hair dryer simply softens the adhesive allowing the sticker to be easily removed. Using a regular household hair dryer will make it a lot eaiser to remove any sticker, decal, or emblem that has an adhesive backing.

Hair dryer tip .. heat the plate from behind .. Most plates are Al and will transfer heat faster to the glue than the sticker will.

Thanks everyone! I`m going to remove my plate, heat with hair dryer and hopefully remove everything. If that doesn`t take everything off I`ll give Goof off or 3M Adhesive remover a try. Thanks again.

I, too, just put it on top of the previous year`s sticker. That said, if after 20 or so years I have a tube of them projecting off the plate, I might do something about it.
