NXT now vs #26 then

After all the hype about NXT I decided to try it this year. Although I haven`t really finished up the car to the point I`d like it, I am happy with the results so far. If I hadn`t just #20/#26ed my Miata I`d probably jump right in on that too...



A little background - I did a photo series on my 1977 MGB last year here on Autopia (see Show detailing the MGB (http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26814&highlight=mgb)). Since then I`ve taken the car to, and won a few shows with it. Other than dusting it off and wiping it down with either Showtime or Zaino`s detailing spray I haven`t done much to it. This year I washed it, then went to work with the NXT Tech Wax - applied with a foam applicator. No other polishing/prep was done.

For comparison here`s part of last year`s series when I stripped/washed the car with Dawn, polished with Meguiars paint cleaner, Meguiar`s #7, then finished with a coat of Meguiar`s #20, topped with #26.

The lighting conditions are similar. I`m not sure whether the deeper color is just an accident, less ambient light on the ceiling, etc...or whether it`s purely because NXT is better/different - but nevertheless it looks nice.

Both look great and yes, maybe lighting makes NXT look darker. Either way, A VERY NICE SHADE OF RED!:up

I forgot to mention - I absolutely cannot stand the shape of the NXT bottle, it`s hideous. Marketing scheme or intentional, it needs to be replaced by the same bottle used for #7/#20/#26, etc.

I`ve never owned a MGB, but I have owned two MGA`s, two Midgets, and two Spitfires. I cut my teeth painting on one of the Spitfires.

Do you have any whole car shots with the Tech Wax on it? And, have you had a chance to apply a second coat?



The reason I ask is because I paid careful attention to the last two black cars I detailed,

one is here, (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=218), the other I haven`t uploaded the pictures or the write-up yet, but with both cars I pulled them into the sun after the first coat, and again after the second coat, (approximately 12 hours later), and with both cars I noticed a much more uniform finish, (better looking finish).

Thanks for the comments -- for everyone commenting about the color, it was an original color used on Acuras in the early 90s, and is very close to the modern metallic red on Jaguars and Cadillacs.



I don`t have pictures of the whole car yet, it hasn`t been out of the garage since I started prepping it (getting ready for a show in a couple of weeks). I`ll try to do a comparison set up between last year`s #20/#26 experiment and NXT though.



I have the luggage rack off the trunk so I went ahead and put a second coat on it - and will be doing the front fenders and hood soon. Eventually I`ll be doing the insides of the doors, sills, etc too. In the past #20 was enough in those areas for me, but I`ll probably go over everything with NXT to freshen it up.

PS: Impressive results on the Corvette... But I think you must have used some kind of trick photography (or duct tape). There`s absolutely no way that NXT bottle could have stayed put after putting a couple coats of NXT on the car. I tried to do something similar on the trunk of the MG - I finally gave up!

Here`s my trick, I put a small piece of clay, (from Quick Clay), on the bottom of the bottle and then position the bottle.



Afterwards, I gently remove any leftover residue and polish out any marks with a little NXT Tech Wax.
