The posts are full of "white car stories" where people don`t know if they have clear coat or not.

IF IT`S STILL THERE get the paint color code off the door jam sticker, called your local (Insert car company)`s body shop, and ask someone to please look up what it is. Call a second shop if you want to be sure.

2004 Honda Accord Taffata White, NH578, for example, turns out to be a single base, clear coat.

Most of us are pretty experienced at car detailing and have a quick and easy way to determine if a car has a clearcoat:

Apply a small amount of a cleaner wax or abrasive polish to an applicator and rub onto a hidden spot of paint. If the color shows on the applicator, you have a single stage nonclearcoat paint job. If you see no color, you do indeed have a clearcoated paint job.

When it comes to white paint, a certain amount of common sense must be used but I`m sure a reminder is not in order here.

Bret is right. Using a light polish or cleaner wax will tell you instanty if the paint is single stage or clear coated.
