I just washed my car and it looks great, however, I felt the car with my hand and some parts where silky smooth yet others where rough and felt like a chalkboard or sandpapery, anyone know what this is? is it normal? what should i do? thanks!

where are the rough surfaces? Just behind the wheel openings?

If it is on the paint surface, you probably have some contaminants. Clean the surface by using a good claybar.

the roughness is mostly on the roof - but my car is only a few weeks old
I think I will clay it

May be some tree sap or something like that. Claybar should take care of it for you.
Get us some pics when you are finished.

Thats from the car sitting on the dealers lot and having fallout and contaminants sit on the roof, clay will take care of it ;)
